PDF to EPUB converter

Turn a PDF into a clean, reflowable EPUB for Kindle, Apple Books, Kobo or your phone. Epubfy finds the chapters, removes page headers and numbers, and rejoins broken lines — without changing a word of the text.

Why most converted PDFs are hard to read

A PDF is a set of fixed pages. When a typical converter turns it into an ebook, page numbers and running headers end up in the middle of sentences, every line becomes its own paragraph, and two-column pages get mixed together. Epubfy reads the page layout first, so the result reads like a real ebook:

Real chapters and a table of contents

Chapter and section headings become a clickable table of contents in your e-reader.

No page headers, footers or numbers

The running header, page numbers and repeated footers that break up the text are left out.

Paragraphs, not broken lines

Lines are joined back into paragraphs and words hyphenated at the end of a line are rejoined.

Multi-column pages in order

Two- and three-column layouts are read column by column, the way you would read them.

Code, bold and italics kept

Code samples keep their line breaks and indentation; emphasis stays where it was.

Images and diagrams kept

Pictures, charts and diagrams are placed where they appear in the text.

How it works

  1. Upload your PDF. Drop it on the converter above. If it has a password, enter it first.
  2. Epubfy reads the layout. It measures fonts, columns and spacing on every page, and AI recognizes which lines are chapter and section headings. The text itself is copied exactly.
  3. Download the EPUB. Open it in your e-reader, or tap "Read in browser" to read it on your phone right away.

What works best

Epubfy is made for text-based PDFs: books, textbooks, reports, manuals, course notes and research papers. Pages built mostly from text reflow best.

  • Scanned PDFs (photos of pages) have no text inside and can't be converted yet.
  • Very visual layouts — magazines, comics, forms, slides, or pages full of equations and complex tables — don't reflow well in any converter. For those, a fixed-layout PDF is often the better format to keep.
  • Free limits: 30 MB and 600 pages per file, 3 conversions a day.

Your files stay private

Your PDF is deleted the moment it has been read. The EPUB is kept for 60 minutes so you can download it, and is then deleted automatically. No account, no email address, no tracking cookies. Details are in our privacy policy.

Frequently asked questions

Is Epubfy free?

Yes. You can convert 3 PDFs a day for free, up to 30 MB and 600 pages each. There is no sign-up and no watermark.

Will the text of my book change?

No. The words are copied from the PDF exactly as they are. Epubfy only changes the layout: it joins lines back into paragraphs, rejoins words that were hyphenated at the end of a line, and leaves out repeating page headers, footers and page numbers. AI is used only to recognize the structure (which lines are chapter and section headings); it never writes or rewrites text.

Does it work with scanned PDFs?

Not yet. A scanned PDF is a set of page images with no text inside, so there is nothing to reflow. Epubfy tells you right away if a file is a scan. It works with PDFs that were created from a text document — you can usually select and copy text in them.

Can I read the EPUB on a Kindle?

Yes. Kindles don't open EPUB files copied over USB, but Amazon's Send to Kindle service accepts EPUB and converts it for your Kindle automatically. You can send it by email, from the Send to Kindle website or from the Kindle app. See our PDF to Kindle guide for the steps.

Can I convert PDF to MOBI or AZW3 instead?

Epubfy creates EPUB, which is what Amazon now recommends: Send to Kindle no longer accepts MOBI files, and EPUB also works in Apple Books, Kobo, Google Play Books and most reading apps.

What happens to my file?

Your PDF is deleted as soon as it has been read. The finished EPUB is kept for 60 minutes so you can download it, then deleted automatically. Files are never shared or used for anything else.

My PDF has a password. Can I convert it?

Yes, if you know the password: click "PDF has a password?" before choosing the file and enter it. PDFs locked with DRM (for example books bought through Adobe Digital Editions) can't be converted.

What is basic mode?

Normally Epubfy uses AI to work out the chapters and headings. If the chapters in your EPUB look wrong, switch to basic mode on the result screen: it treats larger text as headings instead. The text is the same in both modes.
